- 万博で出会った一人の女性がきっかけだった
- 5月の夕暮れ、初めて訪れた万博でのこと。 人の波が少し落ち着いた時間に、ふと立ち寄った「カザフスタン館」で、一人の女性と出会いました。 彼女はカザフスタンから日本に留学している学生で、柔らかな笑顔でこう話してくれました。 「私たちの国の魅力を日本の人たちに伝えられることが、本当にうれしいんです」 その瞳には、まっすぐな誇りと希望が宿っていました。 その瞬間、胸の奥にぽっと温かい灯がともりました。 ──万博とは、国が誇りをかけて想いを伝える場所なんだ。 ただの展示ではなく、人と人、文化と文化を結ぶ“橋”なんだ。 そう感じたとき、ふと心に浮かびました。 「自分にも、日本と世界をつなぐ何かができるのではないか」と。
The Encounter That Started It All One evening in May, during my first visit to the World Expo, I wandered into the Kazakhstan Pavilion just as the crowds began to thin out. There, I met a young woman. She was a student from Kazakhstan studying in Japan. With a warm smile, she said, “It makes me so happy to share the beauty of my country with people in Japan.” Her eyes shone with quiet pride and hope. In that moment, a small, gentle light flickered inside my heart. I realized that the Expo isn’t just a showcase of technology or culture — it’s a place where nations share their pride, their identity, and their heart. It’s a bridge of connection, not just a display. And I found myself thinking, “Maybe I, too, can find a way to connect Japan and the world.”
- 善意の連鎖が、僕の原点にある
- 大学時代、トルコを旅していたときに、バスが横転する事故に遭いました。 多くの友人が大けがを負い、混乱の中で途方に暮れていたとき、 通りかかった現地の人たちが、迷うことなく助けに駆けつけてくれたのです。 お礼を伝えると、彼らは静かに言いました。 「お礼なんていらないよ。次に困っている人がいたら、あなたが助けてあげて。」 その言葉が、今もずっと僕の中に生きています。 以来、僕は“善意が連鎖する世界”を信じて生きてきました。 今も年に何日かは無給で働く日を決め、 講演料や原稿料、当番医の出向料などはすべて寄付に充てています。 あの日の恩を、少しずつ世界に返していきたいという思いで。
The Chain of Kindness That Shaped My Life When I was a university student, I was traveling through Turkey when the bus I was on overturned. Many of my friends were badly injured, and in the chaos, it was local people who rushed in to help us — without hesitation, without concern for themselves. When I tried to thank them, they said something I will never forget: “You don’t need to thank us. Just help the next person you see who needs it.” Those words have stayed with me ever since. They became the compass that guides how I live my life. Even now, I dedicate several days each year to working without pay, donating the income I earn from lectures, writing, and emergency medical duties to charity — a small way to return the kindness I once received.
- 人の“凸凹”を活かすために
- そんな思いを原点にして、僕は脳機能評価プログラムを開発しています。 人にはそれぞれ、認知や思考の“凸凹”があります。 その違いを理解し、強みを引き出すことができれば、 誰もが自分らしく輝ける環境をつくることができる。 そんな未来を描きながら、 クリニックでの実践に加え、教育現場や発展途上国でも活用できる可能性を探しています。 そのヒントを求めて、万博では多くの国のパビリオンを訪れ、 文化も考え方も異なる人たちと、できる限り対話を重ねました。 すべてがうまくいったわけではありません。 門前払いされたこともありました。 それでも、丁寧に話を聞いてくれる人たちとの出会いは、 僕にとって大切な学びの時間でした。
Embracing the Uniqueness in Every Mind With that belief at my core, I began developing a Cognitive Function Evaluation Program. Each person has their own unique “peaks and valleys” in how they think and process the world. When we understand those differences, we can create environments where everyone can shine in their own way. I’ve been applying this program in my clinic, and exploring how it might also be used in education and even in developing countries. At the Expo, I visited many national pavilions hoping to find opportunities for dialogue and collaboration. Not every encounter went smoothly — some doors stayed closed — but many welcomed me kindly, and every conversation became a meaningful lesson.
- ナイジェリアで出会った「祈りのかたち」
- そんな中で心を奪われたのが、ナイジェリア館で出会った Oladele Ogbeyemi さんの作品でした。 生命の息吹と祈り、そして人の温もりが、静かに伝わってくるようなアート。 その前に立った瞬間、言葉を失いました。 作品に込められた想いを未来に繋げたい── そう強く願い、ナイジェリア政府の方々のご協力を得て、 この作品を正式に譲り受けることになりました。
“A Shape of Prayer” — The Art I Met in Nigeria Among all those encounters, one moment in the Nigeria Pavilion stopped me in my tracks. It was a sculpture by Oladele Ogbeyemi — a piece that seemed to breathe with life, prayer, and empathy. As I stood before it, I felt something wordless yet powerful. With the support of the Nigerian government staff, I was given the opportunity to formally receive this work — not as a possession, but as a connection.

- この出会いをきっかけに、 ナイジェリアの子どもたちを支援するための 医療・教育・奨学金基金の設立を進めています。 僕がこの非売品のオブジェを手にしたのは、 モノを所有したかったからではありません。 あの万博で感じた、人の善意や情熱、 そして国を越えて交わった心の温度を、 形として未来に残し、次の世代へつなぎたい。 ただ、それだけの思いでした。
Art That Inspires Hope and Learning That encounter became the beginning of something new. I am now working to establish a medical, educational, and scholarship fund to support children in Nigeria. I didn’t choose this artwork because I wanted to own it. I chose it because I wanted to preserve — in tangible form — the kindness, passion, and warmth I felt at the Expo, and to pass it on to the next generation.
世界は、誰かの善意でつながっている。
そのバトンを、今度は僕たちが渡していく番です。
The world is connected by acts of kindness.
And now, it’s our turn to carry that kindness forward.
